HISTORY

The company’s founder Rina Ladas arrived in Australia in 1965. Rina was trained in the couture method of design, pattern cutting and dressmaking, in Europe. These methods have been passed down from generations since the birth of couture by Charles Frederick Worth in the mid 19th century.

Rina began designing and sewing immediately upon her arrival and began creating wedding gowns in 1971. She Married in 1968 and by 1971 she had two daughters, Lia and Maria. Rina now supervises all the steps in the construction of each and every wedding gown.

Maria was very creative as a child and was sketching dresses as soon as she could draw. She studied design at college and travelled to Europe to learn more. However her education was far from complete until she learnt the couture method of garment design and construction from her mother. She designs all the gowns at Nyphes and is happy to work personally with each bride.

Lia graduated in Psychology and Sociology and worked in her field for a short time before selecting “a more pleasant environment” at Nyphes where she is the manager.

The three are still hands on at Nyphes and find their work immensely rewarding.

Nyphes began formally in 1981 and has moved twice to allow for its expansion and is now found on King William Road at Hyde Park in South Australia. It has achieved immense growth for a small Australian company and supplies selected salons and boutiques around Australia.

Recently they have launched a new, exclusive and exciting range of fashion evening wear for all women who want to look glamorous and sophisticated from age 18 to 60 from school formals and bridesmaids to formal balls.
